A quick and easy fall cocktail featuring fresh apple cider, blanco tequila, and a warm cinnamon sugar rim. Perfectly balanced between tart and sweet, this crowd-pleasing margarita tastes like autumn in a glass.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 2 ounces blanco tequila
  • 3 ounces fresh apple cider (unfiltered)
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • ½ ounce orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon maple syrup or agave

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cinnamon sugar rim: On a small plate, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until well combined. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip the rim into the cinnamon sugar mixture, twisting gently to coat evenly. Tap off any excess. Set the glass aside.
  2. Juice your lime: Roll the lime on your countertop before cutting it to help release more juice. Cut it in half and juice it until you have about one ounce.
  3. Fill your shaker with ice: Add enough ice cubes to fill your shaker about halfway.
  4. Add the tequila: Pour in 2 ounces of blanco tequila.
  5. Add the apple cider: Pour in 3 ounces of fresh apple cider.
  6. Add the lime juice and orange liqueur: Pour in 1 ounce of fresh lime juice and ½ ounce of orange liqueur. If using maple syrup or agave, add it now.
  7. Shake it like you mean it: Secure the lid on your shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels cold.
  8. Strain into your prepared glass: Fill your rimmed glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the margarita into the glass.
  9. Garnish and serve: Add a thin apple slice or a cinnamon stick for garnish if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t use apple juice as a substitute for apple cider. For best results, use fresh unfiltered apple cider. Chill your glass beforehand for a colder drink. If making for a crowd, mix the liquid base ahead of time and refrigerate, but don’t add ice or rim glasses until ready to serve. The flavors develop nicely after sitting for an hour or two.
