This small batch cranberry orange sauce with fresh ginger is a quick, one-pot recipe that yields a bold, layered flavor perfect for holiday meals. It’s easy to make, customizable, and ideal for smaller gatherings or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz (170g) fresh cranberries
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (60ml) fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • ¼ cup (60ml) water
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: zest the orange, juice it, grate the ginger, and measure out sugar and water.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, orange juice, and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. Add cranberries and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Stir in grated ginger and orange zest.
  5. Reduce heat to a gentle simmer (medium-low) and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cranberries burst and sauce thickens.
  6. Check consistency: sauce should coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat.
  7. Stir in a pinch of salt. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a serving dish or storage jar. Serve warm, at room temperature, or cold.

Notes

For best flavor, use organic oranges and fresh ginger. The sauce thickens as it cools. Make ahead for deeper flavor. To prevent boil-overs, watch the pot when cranberries first boil. Use a splatter guard to keep stovetop clean.
