These cozy sriracha spiderweb deviled eggs are the perfect Halloween appetizer—creamy, spicy, and just a little bit creepy. With a simple spiderweb pattern and a sriracha kick, they’re impressive without being intimidating, and they taste way better than any store-bought appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise, preferably full-fat (Duke’s or Hellmann’s)
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika, plus more for garnish
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • Pinch of salt (only if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, thinned with 1 teaspoon water (for spiderweb)
  • 1/4 teaspoon activated charcoal powder or black food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a large pot. Cover with cold water by 1 inch. Add vinegar and salt. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat (8-10 minutes). Cover, turn off heat, and let sit for exactly 12 minutes.
  2. Prepare an ice bath. Transfer eggs to ice water using a slotted spoon. Chill for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Gently crack eggs all over, roll between palms to loosen shells. Peel starting from the wider end. Rinse under cool water and pat dry.
  4. Cut each egg in half lengthwise. Pop out yolks into a medium mixing bowl. Arrange egg white halves on a serving platter, cut side up.
  5. Add mayonnaise, sriracha, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper to the yolks. Mash with a fork until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  6. Spoon filling into a piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip off 1/4 inch from corner. Pipe filling into each egg white half, mounding slightly (about 1 tablespoon per half).
  7. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons mayonnaise with 1 teaspoon water to drizzling consistency. If using charcoal powder, mix with a few drops of water to make a paste, then stir into thinned mayo until dark gray or black.
  8. Using a squeeze bottle or toothpick, drizzle thin lines of thinned mayo in a spiral pattern across the filled eggs. Drag lines from center outward with a toothpick to create web effect. For two-tone, repeat with dark mixture.
  9. Refrigerate finished deviled eggs for at least 30 minutes before serving. Just before serving, sprinkle with smoked paprika. Optionally, add a tiny dollop of sriracha in the center of each web for a ‘spider body’ effect.

Notes

Use eggs that are at least a week old for easier peeling. Practice the web pattern on a plate first. For best results, hard-boil and peel eggs the day before, make filling the morning of, and pipe/decorate no more than an hour before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Do not microwave to reheat.
