A thick, creamy, and protein-packed smoothie bowl made with frozen banana, peanut butter, and protein powder. Ready in just five minutes, it’s the perfect quick and satisfying breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large frozen banana (ripe, peeled, and frozen overnight)
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter (natural or regular, well-stirred)
  • 1 scoop vanilla or unflavored protein powder (about 30 grams)
  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (dairy, almond, oat, or soy; start with less and add more as needed)
  • 1/2 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, depending on sweetness preference)
  • Pinch of sea salt (optional but highly recommended)
  • Toppings of your choice (granola, sliced banana, chia seeds, shredded coconut, dark chocolate chips, extra drizzle of peanut butter)

Instructions

  1. Prep your banana: Peel a ripe banana (the spotty ones are best), slice it into coins, and lay them flat on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Add ingredients to the blender in the right order: Start with the milk first, then add the peanut butter, protein powder, honey or maple syrup (if using), and the pinch of sea salt. Place the frozen banana chunks on top.
  3. Blend on low speed first: Start your blender on low and gradually increase to high. If your blender has a tamper, use it to push the ingredients down. If not, stop the blender, scrape down the sides with a spatula, and blend again. Repeat until the mixture is smooth and thick.
  4. Check the consistency: The mixture should be thick enough to hold its shape when you stop the blender. If it looks too thick and the blender is struggling, add milk one tablespoon at a time until it blends smoothly. If it looks too thin, add a few more frozen banana chunks or a handful of ice cubes and blend again.
  5. Transfer to a bowl: Use your spatula to scrape every last bit of the smoothie into a serving bowl.
  6. Add your toppings: Start with a base of granola for crunch, then add sliced banana, a drizzle of peanut butter, a sprinkle of chia seeds, and a few dark chocolate chips.
  7. Serve immediately: Smoothie bowls do not sit well. Eat it right away while it is cold and thick.

Notes

Freeze your banana sliced into coins for easier blending. Use cold milk to keep the smoothie bowl thick. Do not over-blend to avoid melting. Layer toppings strategically: heavier toppings on the bottom, lighter on top. Prep smoothie bags with frozen banana, protein powder, and dry toppings for busy mornings.
