This creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip is topped with a sour cream spiderweb, making it the perfect Halloween party appetizer. Quick to prepare with simple ingredients, it’s a crowd-pleaser that disappears fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (reserve 2 tablespoons for spiderweb)
  • 1 cup shredded cooked chicken (rotisserie or leftover)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, or carrot sticks for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth (about 2 minutes with a hand mixer).
  3. Add buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, and sour cream (reserving 2 tablespoons for spiderweb). Mix until well combined and uniform pale orange.
  4. Fold in shredded chicken until evenly coated.
  5. Stir in shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, reserving about 1/4 cup cheddar for topping.
  6. Transfer mixture to a greased 9-inch pie plate or small baking dish and spread into an even layer.
  7. Sprinkle reserved cheddar cheese over the top.
  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes until edges are bubbly and top is lightly golden.
  9. While dip bakes, place reserved 2 tablespoons sour cream in a small zip-top bag. Snip a tiny corner (about 1/8 inch wide).
  10. Remove dip from oven and let cool for 2 minutes.
  11. Pipe concentric circles of sour cream starting from the center outward (4-5 circles). Using a toothpick, drag outward from the center through the circles to create a spiderweb pattern (6-8 spokes).
  12. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, or carrot sticks.

Notes

For best results, let cream cheese soften at room temperature for 30-45 minutes. Use room temperature sour cream and ranch dressing to avoid lumps. Freshly shredded cheese melts more smoothly. Do not overbake; dip is done when bubbly around edges. Let dip cool 2-3 minutes before adding spiderweb so sour cream doesn’t melt. Can be assembled (without spiderweb) up to 24 hours ahead; add 5 minutes to baking time if starting from cold. For parties, transfer baked dip to a small slow cooker on ‘warm’ and add spiderweb on top.
