mummy pigs in a blanket - featured image

These adorable mummy hot dogs are wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and baked until golden. They’re a quick, easy, and kid-approved Halloween appetizer that looks like you spent hours on it.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 beef or turkey hot dogs
  • Mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • Optional: Cooking spray or melted butter
  • Optional: Everything Bagel Seasoning or Sesame Seeds
  • Optional: Cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a cutting board. If using perforated dough, pinch the diagonal seams together to create a solid sheet. Gently press into an even rectangle.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide (aim for 10-12 strips per can).
  4. Take one hot dog and place it at the end of a dough strip. Begin wrapping the strip around the hot dog, slightly overlapping the dough as you go, leaving a small gap at the top for the face. Repeat with remaining hot dogs.
  5. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Using a toothpick or the tip of a knife, dab two small dots of mustard onto the exposed part of the hot dog to create eyes.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra golden mummies, brush the dough with melted butter or an egg wash before baking. You can also sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds. To prevent the dough from unwrapping, press the tail end of the strip onto the wrapped mummy or place them seam-side down. These are best served warm.
