These Easy Mummy Sausage Rolls are the perfect Halloween appetizer—cute, delicious, and ready in under 30 minutes. Made with just four simple ingredients, they’re a crowd-pleaser that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1216 cocktail sausages or sausage rolls
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes)
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw puff pastry properly: let it sit at room temperature for about 20 minutes until cold but pliable.
  3. Cut the pastry into strips: on a lightly floured surface, slice one sheet of puff pastry into thin strips about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) wide.
  4. Wrap each sausage: take one sausage and wrap a pastry strip around it, slightly overlapping, leaving a small gap near the top for the eyes. Tuck the end underneath to secure.
  5. Place on the baking sheet: arrange wrapped sausages seam-side down, spacing them about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  6. Apply the egg wash: beat one egg with a tablespoon of water and brush over each mummy.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes until pastry is puffed and deep golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly: let mummies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before adding eyes.
  9. Add the eyes: using a piping bag or sandwich bag, dot two small mustard eyes onto each mummy where the gap was left.
  10. Serve immediately or keep warm in a low oven (200°F/95°C) for up to an hour.

Notes

Don’t assemble too far in advance—pastry can get soggy if wrapped more than 30 minutes before baking. Use fully cooked sausages to avoid raw centers. For extra crispiness, sprinkle flaky sea salt after egg wash. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes.
