A dramatic Halloween punch with dry ice fog that creates a spooky, bubbling cauldron effect. Made with simple ingredients like apple juice, cranberry juice, and frozen berries, this drink is perfect for parties and wows both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 64 ounces apple juice or apple cider
  • 32 ounces cranberry juice cocktail
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 2 cups frozen mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries)
  • 2 limes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup orange juice (optional)
  • 2 to 3 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Optional for garnish: gummy worms, plastic spiders, or a dry ice ‘cauldron’ bowl

Instructions

  1. Chill your ingredients (30 minutes before serving): Combine the apple juice, cranberry juice, pineapple juice, and orange juice (if using) in a large pitcher. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare your garnishes (10 minutes before serving): Slice the limes into thin rounds. If desired, cut a slit in each slice so they can hang on the rim of the bowl. Set aside the frozen berries.
  3. Assemble the punch bowl (5 minutes before serving): Pour the chilled juice mixture into your punch bowl. Add the frozen berries and lime slices. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Prepare the dry ice (right before serving): Put on safety glasses and thick gloves or use tongs. If the dry ice is in a large block, wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and gently tap it with a hammer to break it into golf ball-sized chunks.
  5. Add the dry ice to the punch: Using tongs, carefully drop 2 to 3 chunks of dry ice into the punch bowl. Do not use more than 1 pound of dry ice per gallon of liquid.
  6. Stir gently with a long spoon to help the dry ice circulate and create more fog.
  7. Serve immediately: Ladle the punch into cups, being careful not to scoop up any dry ice chunks. Warn guests not to drink the dry ice.
  8. Refresh the fog (as needed): After about 15 to 20 minutes, add 1 to 2 more chunks of dry ice to the bowl to revive the spooky effect.

Notes

Always use food-grade dry ice. Never touch dry ice with bare hands. Do not let anyone consume solid dry ice pieces. The punch will be very cold from the dry ice. The dry ice will completely sublimate within 30 to 45 minutes, leaving the punch safe to drink. For best fog effect, add dry ice right when guests arrive and refresh after 20 minutes. Use a clear glass bowl to see the bubbling action.
